For those of us firmly entrenched in the “adulting” world of work and real responsibilities, this is the time of year when a warm weather getaway sounds like the ultimate vacation. We crave a break from it all; the cold weather, the commitments and the stress. Our perfect fantasy of sitting poolside on a sunny day with fruity drink in hand can become clouded by thoughts of what to pack, how much to pack, whether to carry on or check a bag.
Packing stress is real. Prepping for a vacation can sometimes feel like yet another chore. If you are lucky enough to be going on vacation this winter, we’ve got some suggestions for how to pack efficiently and skillfully by streamlining some essentials. Warm weather calls for pieces that err on the side of casual but can be worn day-to-night. Bonus: this type of clothing is lightweight and doesn’t take up much room in a suitcase.
Here are our recommendations for what to pack:
Fact: You are likely to spend 90% of your time in a swimsuit so 1 or 2 great suits is all you need. Personal preference will determine whether the suit is a bikini or a one piece but with one can also double as a top to a skirt, sarong or shorts.
2. A flowy maxi dress:
Easy and breezy it can take you from daytime to dinner and can also serve as a swimsuit cover up.
Look cute and keep cool by dressing it up or down. Wear with sneakers or sandals for daytime exploring. Change it up at night for dinner with a higher heel (or wedge) and statement earrings.
A great pair of classic, simple sunglasses not only make you look cool but protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. They don’t have to be expensive or fancy, but they should complement the shape of your face.
5.Loose knit sweater:
A loose knit cotton sweater (we vote for a white one) can be worn as a beach cover up. Breathable and functional it can also keep a cool breeze at bay.
A versatile pair of (flat or low-heeled) sandals look great with dresses, shorts and bathing suits and look more polished than flip flops.
7. Straw Bag:
Carry it from poolside to dinner and everywhere in between. A tote will fit the most stuff but some of the smaller structured ones are super cute too. Choose the size that suits you best; it’s more about the casual vibe of the texture.
8. Statement earrings:
A bold and colorful pair of statement earrings adds a summery vacation vibe to any outfit.
Now all you need to decide is where to go!
