Spring Fashion Trends for 2022
Spring is here and we are filled with excitement for what the new season will bring! Now is the perfect time to do a closet edit and remove what you don’t wear and/or doesn’t fit so you can identify the “holes” in your wardrobe and know what needs to be replaced or updated before you start shopping.
After nearly two years of rarely dressing up and having limited places to go, it’s safe to say that we are more than ready to get back to putting outfits together and having them reflect our personalities and our moods. And our mood is optimistic! The colors that are set to hit the streets this season come in bold bright hues like orange, green and yellow. Look for uplifting saturated bright colors in all clothing categories. While comfort remains important, instead of sweatpants and hoodies, we can choose relaxed trousers and oversize blazers. Silhouettes are somewhat oversized with preppy inspired looks that feel so fresh; classics with twist. Hemlines are higher AND lower; micro minis and maxi skirts are the most dominant while midi lengths take a back seat this season.
Like hemlines, the footwear of the season is either very high, think platforms and 2000'sinspired ankle wrap high heeled sandals, or low with loafers and chunky slides begging us to follow in their footsteps. On the subject of accessories, the pendulum has swung away from mini bags to large totes that will be all you need to carry a realistic amount of essentials in your bag. For jewelry, chunky chain jewelry and statement earrings provide an instant update to any outfit.
Keep in mind that trends are mere suggestions for how to infuse your wardrobe with newness at the start of a season. As always, wear what YOU love and feel comfortable in, and your best self will shine through. In the words of fashion journalist G Bruce Boyer, “Real style is never right or wrong, it’s a matter of being yourself on purpose.”
BRIGHT AND BOLD SAVVY
There will be color, and lots of it. This season’s go to shades can be spotted from a mile away. Orange in particular, will be seen on virtually anything referencing fashion, but also expect to see bright green, yellow, blue and pink. The most dramatic impact is achieved by wearing vibrant color head-to-toe, like a tailored pantsuit, but if that is out of your comfort zone, play around with one pop of color to enhance a neutral outfit. Full green suits with matching bralettes were seen on the runways, but that bra top can easily be substituted with a tank top or t-shirt for a more real world look. We love a good pantsuit but skirt suits are making a comeback…especially if the skirt is short and the jacket is longer.. These electric and saturated shades of normally bright tones look modern, and also work well for jumpsuits, leather separates, handbags and shoes.
PREPPY STYLES MODERN FLARE
Let’s talk about silhouettes. Preppy styles and classic pieces are a great way to tone down the formality of any look. Think classics with a twist; oversized button-down shirts, polo-style tops and sweaters, relaxed blazers, lightweight sweater vests, and high-waisted, wide-ish leg trousers are easy for most everyone to wear and create a casual but polished look. Paired with stylish vintage logo tees or a simple t-shirt, it’s a great updated yet retro vibe! Complete the look with loafers, (classics or lug sole), or even a menswear-inspired oxford shoe . The sensibility of Spring is comfort in style.
MAXIMUS MINI LUX
Admittedly, micro minis aren’t for everyone. It’s a look that can definitely skew younger but you don’t have to be under 30 to wear them. If you’ve got the legs and the confidence to go for it, then wear one. Here are 5 tips to think about when pulling your mini skirt outfit together:
1. not too tight or too flowy; think A-line silhouette.
2. No more than 3” above the knee.
3. Pair a short skirt with a long jacket or duster.
4. Go with a monochromatic color palette, it will elongate your legs and body.
5. Wear flats or low heels for the most modern look.
Maxi skirts are also trending, and with good reason. This low key gem of a wardrobe piece is super versatile because it can be styled in many different ways and it can be seasonless for multiple dress codes and temperatures. As a casual, must have piece and depending on the weather/temperature, it can be styled with a sweater or a t-shirt, as well as a multitude of footwear. When worn with pointed-toe heels, it gives off a ‘50’s vibe, chunky black boots feel grunge, and sneakers are a perfect laid-back, every day choice. Experiment with different shoe styles to fit your mood and make a maxi skirt work for your own personal style. We especially love maxis in rib knits, jersey and denim.
For every season; there’s a hint of nostalgia. Platform shoes were popular in the 70’s, and experiencing a comeback for Spring 2022. Platform boots have been trending for a while now and we’ve even had a warm weather version in platform flip flops. So it makes sense that something a little fancier would be next and become the perfect transitional shoe to get us used to dressing up again. The classic Mary Jane is “getting a lift” and emerging as the IT silhouette this season but also look for the platform on open toed mules, and loafers. High heels are going thick and chunky too, with basket weave and patent leather fabrics. This shoe trend works well with all the clothing trends mentioned, and despite it’s sometimes intimidating height, many platform styles have some arch support and are quite comfortable.
The go-to accessory of the season is a large tote bag. The choices are abundant; from structured and refined to relaxed and understated, you should choose the one that both fits your budget and reflects your personal style. From logo-dominant fabric iterations to understated leather versions, the options are endless for this oh-so-chic yet practical bag silhouette that will hold everything you need and want to have with you at all times. An added bonus: a chic tote works with any look you decide to rock. Whether you are a city or suburban dweller, this is a handbag style worth investing in. Oversized basket-weave options add texture and are the perfect tote to carry this spring trend right into summer.
-Cut outs. The cut out trend from last spring remains strong. If you are not into major skin-baring looks, try more discreet, strategically placed cut out details near the collarbone and back
-Fringe details. Think statement making carwash type fringe on skirts, dresses, and vests
-Chunky gold jewelry
- Y2K inspired jewelry; fun bright oversized necklaces, rings and statement earrings
Spring 2022 fashion is all about how we are making the return to getting dressed again. Practicality is in the spotlight and women are demanding good quality tran-seasonal clothing that is both comfortable and polished. Inspired by this sentiment along with a bit of nostalgia, the fashion world has come through with some very wearable trends that allow us to be creative with our wardrobe and express our personal style. There’s a time and a place to be extra fabulous (and we’ve got you covered there too!), but there is a strong demand for updated classics that we can wear everyday and feel good in, and we’ve been given some great choices this season.
Happy Almost Spring!
